NCSW Chairperson and Minister Wajiha Qamar Align on Inclusive, Skills-Based Education Reforms to Empower Girls Across Pakistan

Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women, Islamabad Noureen Bano Lehri met with the Honourable Minister of State for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Pakistan, Ms. Wajiha Qamar, to discuss critical challenges and opportunities in Pakistan’s education sector.

The conversation highlighted pressing issues including out-of-school children, poverty, access barriers, scattered populations, lack of basic facilities, and the unique socio-cultural challenges affecting girls’ education. Both sides emphasized that a “one-size-fits-all” approach cannot work for regions like Balochistan, Southern Punjab or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rural Sindh, GB and AJK flexible for which context-driven strategies are essential.

Key areas of collaboration discussed:
• Strengthening linkages between NCSW, NAVTTC, and MoFEPT
• Expanding skill-based education and TVET opportunities, especially for girls
• Reviving initiatives like “Aik Hunar Aik Nagar” to promote local crafts and heritage
• Developing pathways for female #EconomicEmpowerment through community-based learning and training centers
• Leveraging technology-driven solutions like Khan Academy for teacher training and student learning in underserved areas

Engagements were also held with Muslim Hands and Khan Academy to explore scalable, inclusive education models, including hybrid learning, AI-supported tools, and multilingual content aligned with the national curriculum.

All the members of the meetings agreed to continue striving towards collaborative frameworks aimed at long-term, sustainable impact, moving beyond short-term interventions toward addressing root causes.

Together, we move forward with a shared commitment: ensuring every child, especially every girl, has access to education, skills, and a brighter future.
