NCSW 73rd Board Meeting

On January 31st 2022, the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) held it’s 73rd Board Meeting. Chairperson NCSW Nilofar Bakhtiar chaired the meeting which was attended by Secretary NCSW Mr. Arif Anwar Baloch, along with the Provincial Chairpersons and board members of the NCSW from each Province of the country as well as Gilgit Baltistan. The Honorable Chief Justice Federal Shariah Court, Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwer, also joined the meeting. He was welcomed as a Chief Guest in the second half of the meeting wherein pertinent issues, challenges and possible solutions were discussed.

 

The meeting initiated with a moment of silence for the lives lost due to the bomb blast in Peshawar. In her opening remarks Chairperson NCSW Nilofar Bakhtiar emphasized the importance of teamwork and unity for within all Provinces including AJK & GB and the necessity to complete the report of the respective provincial board member tenures.

 

Chairperson NCSW shed light on her recent participation in the International Congress for Women of Influence in Iran, the NGDP team visits across Provinces for training & awareness as well as the plans for the creation of a cohesive delegation for the CSW meeting in New York. Moreover, the implementation on Federal Shariah Court Judgement on Punjab Protection of Violence against Women Act, 2016 (Act. XVI of 2016) was thoroughly navigated and deliberated upon. The chair laid great emphasis on the next steps for the report created via a special committee formed to enquire about the derogatory remarks used by politicians in jalsas.

 

The Honorable Chief Justice Federal Shariah Court, Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwer, graced the meeting, “It is an honor to be here amongst you all. Women empowerment and emancipation is a continuous process and joint responsibility,” he said. The Chief Justice spoke to the board members individually wherein they discussed pending legislation & accountability in their respective regions.

 

The meeting concluded with all members and officials partaking in the meeting renewing and reaffirming their commitment to creating a nation of peace through gender parity and equal opportunity of all citizens regardless of their sex.
