Child Marriage Consultation KPK, 23rd January 2024,

National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) held a day long consultative session in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to discuss strategies/ recommendations to end child marriage and to ensure the passage of the child marriage restraint bill in Pakistan. The session included representatives from UN agencies i.e Unfpa, Unicef, Unwomen and Undp along with their provincial teams , Govt agencies, NGOs, experts, and media. NCSW Chairperson Ms. Nilofar Bakhtiar emphasized the urgency of the national child marriage restraint bill, highlighting the negative impacts of child marriage on girls' health, education, and overall well-being. Minister for Higher Education, Law Parliamentary Affairs & Human Rights Departments Kp, Justice Retired Irshad Qaiser, reaffirmed the government's commitment to girls' rights and pledged to prioritize legal reforms related to Child Marriage Restraint Act in the upcoming cabinet meeting.
