CSW 68 Sindh Consultation, 26th January 2024, PC Hotel Karachi

 

The National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW) held a consultative session in Karachi Sindh, to prepare for the 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The theme of this year's CSW is "Need Analysis for Financing & Strengthening Institutions with Gender Perspective for Empowerment of Women and Girls."

The consultations focused on three critical areas: poverty alleviation, institutional strengthening, and financing for gender equality. Participants included representatives from the provincial government and departments, social workers, civil society organizations, media personnel, and consortium partners UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, and UNWOMEN.

*NCSW Chairperson Ms. Nilofar Bakhtiar* emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving gender equality, she stressed on realizing interwined nature of poverty and gender issues.

Chief Guest for inaugural session *Minister for Women Development and Social Welfare Ms. Rana Hussain* lauded NCSW's efforts and pledged Sindh's continued commitment.

Chief guest for closing session *Home Minister Sindh Brigadier (Retd) Haris Nawaz* commended NCSW's leadership and highlighted his own efforts to address gender-based violence.

The CSW68 consultations in Sindh demonstrate a strong commitment from government, civil society, and international partners to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls in Pakistan towards gender equality and focus on economic empowerment for women and poverty eradication.
