NCSW's 75th Board Meeting, Day-2 at NCSW HQ, Islamabad, 7th February 2025

National Commission on the Status of Women, Islamabad board meeting marks productive discussions and key decisions aimed at strengthening the Commission and promoting women's empowerment in #Pakistan.

The board members unanimously decided to fill the vacant posts with the best and most relevant professionals across the country. This move is expected to bring in fresh perspectives and expertise, enabling the Commission to more effectively address the challenges faced by #women in Pakistan. Participants of the meeting also discussed and approved benefits for employees, aiming to enhance their well-being and job satisfaction. Furthermore, the board members emphasized the need for capacity enhancement and brainstorming at different levels, particularly within law enforcement agencies.

While formulating committees, Chairperson NCSW Ms Ume Laila Azhar urged members to actively participate in identifying hotspots in their areas and being vigilant to protect women's rights. This collaborative approach is expected to foster a more effective and responsive mechanism for addressing women's issues.

Media's Role in Empowering Women:

The board members acknowledged the significant role media can play in promoting women's empowerment and campaigning against unmonitored content, particularly highlighting violence against women and the increasing divorce cases depicted in the entertainment industry.

In a significant move, the board members strongly opposed the requirement for members and the chairperson to be members of the bar council. Instead, they demanded a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of women's empowerment and rights. Additionally, they proposed that members and the chairperson should not have any association with political parties for at least 10 years from the date of advertisement for appointments.

These reforms aim to ensure that the Commission remains impartial, independent, and truly representative of women's interests in Pakistan.

The decisions made during these two days of the NCSW board meeting demonstrate the Commission's commitment to promoting women's empowerment, protecting their rights, and creating a more just and equitable society in Pakistan. #womenempowerment #empowerher #rights #ncsw
