Workshop for Media Professionals: Advancing Inclusive Legal Reforms and Strengthening Marginalised Communities

The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), in collaboration with the National Lobbying Delegation, successfully organized a “Workshop for Media Professionals: Advancing Inclusive Legal Reforms and Strengthening Marginalised Communities”.
Chairperson NCSW, Ms. Noureen Bano Lehri, while addressing the participants, underscored the critical role of media as a catalyst for social change and an essential partner in advancing inclusive legal reforms. She highlighted that responsible, informed, and sensitive reporting can significantly influence public discourse and policy direction, particularly on issues affecting marginalized communities.
The Chairperson emphasized the importance of strengthening media’s understanding of Minorities Family Laws and Pakistan’s international commitments under CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women). She noted that aligning national legislation with global human rights standards requires not only institutional efforts but also proactive engagement from the media.
She further encouraged journalists to adopt a rights-based approach in their reporting, ensuring that the voices and concerns of marginalized groups are accurately represented, while avoiding stereotypes and reinforcing dignity and inclusion. She reaffirmed NCSW’s commitment to continued collaboration with media professionals to promote gender equality, social justice, and legislative reforms in Pakistan.
The workshop brought together a diverse cohort of media professionals, sensitizing them on key issues including Minorities Family Laws, the significance of CEDAW, and its impact on national legislation, as well as effective reporting on human rights concerns and social implications.
The session witnessed active participation from representatives of leading print and electronic media outlets, including Hum News, DAWN News, Dunya News, ABN News, KTN, 92 News, ARY News, Express News & Tribune, Nawai Waqt, along with several other local channels.
