NCSW flood relief meeting, multiple civil societies gathered at APWA, 22nd September 2022

In an imperative NCSW flood relief meeting, multiple civil societies gathered at APWA wherein the issues faced by women in the post- flood environment in the country were brought on the table. Current assistance initiatives and future endeavors were examined and reviewed.

NCSW met with Secretary WDD Punjab, 22nd September 2022, Lahore

Chairperson NCSW met with Secretary WDD Punjab Sumaira Samad to discuss women specific post-flood relief action, measures to improve efforts of PCSW, joint ventures for 16 Days of Activism and review of pending pro women legislations.

Meeting with DG PDMA Punjab, 21st September 2022, Lahore

The DG PDMA Punjab briefed CP NCSW on the current situation of the flood affected areas in South Punjab. The Chairperson stressed upon the vulnerability of women in flood hit areas and ensured measures to combat GBV as part of their ongoing relief efforts. #PakistanFloods

6th to 11th September 2022, Interior Sindh Visit

Chairperson NCSW visited multiple camps in interior Sindh last week to talk to the women and children affected by the recent floods. Meetings with the administrations of various districts were also held to urge them to introduce the imperative gender aspect into the flood relief efforts & SOPs in the respective camps, hospitals & rescue operations.

Meeting with Secretary PCSW and team, 21st September 2022, Lahore

Chairperson NCSW was well received by Secretary PCSW and team. Both committed to build synergies between the sister concerns. Briefing was given on the #1043 Helpline, response level on GBV cases and progress on GMIS for the next Punjab Gender Parity Report.

Embassy of Egypt in Pakistan June 20 2022

NCSW in collaboration with UN Women and Egyptian embassy, conducted a round table Interactive dialogue on Financial Inclusion of Women. Amongst many others, Presidents of the women Chamber of Commerce and Industries from various cities, Country-Head UN Women, President IFWA and spouses of the Ambassador of Italy, Czech Republic, and Egypt were present. NCSW suggested changes in chamber policies to ensure gender parity among staff and to make membership of chambers easier to increase participation of women.

Meeting with senior officers of P&D Departments from all provinces including AJK and GB

A national level consultative meeting of senior officers of P&D Departments from all provinces including AJK and GB was hosted at NCSW. The issue of non-availability of data on gender related issues was discussed and strategies to ensure flow of updated data to the NGDP(National Gender Data Portal) were devised.

Interior Sindh Visit ,10 September 2022

In response to the vulnerability faced by women in the unprecedented floods in Pakistan, NCSW & UNFPA began provision of dignity kits in interior Sindh that include both basic hygiene items and items specific to the needs of women and girls to help preserve their dignity during times of crisis.

Inter-Provincial Ministerial Group Meeting

The IPMG meets three to four times a year and has been doing so for last ?ve years. It is an example of healthy coordination, sharing and mutual support on women laws, policies and issues.

Decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Jirga/Panchayat on NCSW petition

NCSW challenged the jirga/panchayat and other such forums in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2011. The Supreme Court of Pakistan on 16th Jan 2019 declared jirga/panchayat etc illegal and against the spirit of the Constitution of the Pakistan.

Harassment, violence and discrimination in the society, including in educational institutions pose a barrier to women’s contribution to national development and to fulfill their aspirations.

Ending Child and Early Age Marriage

In February 2019, the Commission congratulated the Senate for passing the Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Act 2018 moved by Senator Sherry Rehman and requested the Government to table it in the National Assembly and facilitate the early passage of this law.
